Cockeyed
is going to Sundance! Ryan's screenplay has received the Sloan
Fellowship as one of thirteen scripts from around the world to
be developed this year at the highly competitive Sundance Screenwriter's
Lab. Past films that have emerged from the lab include Half Nelson,
Boys Don't Cry, Requiem for a Dream, and You, Me and Everyone We
Know. Ryan will be in Utah trying his blind man's hand at polishing
a picture script from January 11 - 16.
If
you’re planning your 2008 pleasures already,
pencil in February 21 and 22 to catch Ryan in Los Angeles. Actually,
register for medical school, too, since those gigs will be at UCLA’s
School for the Study of Society and Genetics.
As Slow As Possible is finally here! Well, it's there, actually,
in Toronto. Scott Smith's documentary film featuring Ryan will debut
on April 18, 9:30 PM, at the Royal Theatre in Toronto as part of
the Hot Docs film festival. Ryan and Tracy will be there, but Tess
will stay in Vancouver with her Nana and Big Papa, so no appearances
with the baby yet. A second screening of ASAP will be held at noon
on April 22 at the ROM in Toronto, as well. Despite the film's title,
it only runs about sixty minutes. Check it out. You'll never hear
a story quite like the one slung by the guy in the bear costume.
May
15-18 will find Ryan way gone in Auckland, that’s
new Zealand, at the very fine Auckland Writer’s Festival.
He will be doing various things. His daughter will be jet lagged
and making herself known in the audience. Ryan will also be
at the Sydney Writers Festival in Australia from May 18-24. Surf's
up.
Stay
as far from Granby, Quebec, as possible on June 13.
Ryan will be at the town speedway and driving a car as part of
the annual car race and fundraiser for seeing eye dog breeders.
Yes, he will be driving, and his sighted pal and writerly colleague,
Pasha Malla, will be giving directions from the passenger’s
seat. That is, until they die in a fiery and memorable crash during
the fourth lap.
